Fowler Industries
Fowler's Vanta 9 is a hand-built 2011 in blackout finish, tested — by the maker's own caption — through 140,000 rounds, and sold in order-book openings that come and go.
THE MAKER
Fowler Industries is Logan Fowler's company, registered in California in 2019 and based in Le Grand. The shop did not begin with the 2011: it made its name in custom Glock work — including a collaboration with trainer Chris Costa — and its designs traveled far enough to be licensed for airsoft replicas, which is how many people outside the pistol world first handled a 'Fowler.' The custom-pistol step, when it came, was a jump to the deep end: a hand-built double-stack 9mm.
The company sells the way small shops with more demand than bench time usually do: the order book for the Vanta 9 opens periodically and closes when the bench is full, which makes the gun's availability part of its story.
THE MACHINE
The Vanta 9 is a hand-built 9mm 2011 offered in two sizes: Government, with a 5-inch slide, and Kurz at 4.25 inches, both with full dust covers and the shop's aluminum Enhanced Grip Module. The specification reads like a checklist of the modern custom canon: a hand-fit Bar-Sto barrel — Bar-Sto being the barrel maker other builders have trusted for decades — Fowler's own Zero trigger, a tri-top slide with three flats machined along its top, and an order form that lets the buyer spec finish, grip texture and material, optic plate and component colors.
Fowler lists the Vanta 9 at $6,000 on its own site, with ported and Synth variants above and below that mark. Everything about the gun's presentation is blackout and minimal — aggressive serrations, no bright metal, no decoration that doesn't do a job.
